Malagasy Youth and the Millennium Development Goals

Malagasy youth are not nuts, there are many Malagasy kids and adolescents who are as intelligent as foreigners; some are even far more. Yet, we can see in our everyday life that there are still many children in the street who remain illitrate; it’s pitiful but certain of them choose to remain as such. These are just information that you may already know but what I really want to talk about is the new opportunity that can be created for Malagasy Youth in order for them not to spend their time doing nothing. There are many Malagasy person aged more than 18 which means to reach the full age in Madagascar. So why not create development project focused on the objectives of the MDG such as the Top Reseau, the PSI Madagascar? Currently, all the youth activities are focused on the theme of HIV/AIDS and I agree with the fact that this disease is a danger that can bring serious damages to the country but this is not the only pressing challenge in the country’s development policy. The PSI, Top Reseau and the other projects hires hundreds of young educators and dispatch them especially in rural areas to inform people about HIV/AIDS. Wonderful! really. However there are still 7 big and important themes that need to be conveyed all over the island. If it is possible to create a kind of development project for each of the seven themes; not only would this be very helpful to all the young jobless in this country but this is also a great investment that contribues to the development of Madagascar.

If you don’t like the MDG, it’s OK we can change it to MAP because the objectives of the two policies are the same except for the fact that MAP belongs only to the Malagasy Government whereas the MDG is a policy signed by the Malagasy President within the United Nations. And the MDG are to be reached before 2015.

You may think I’m a day-dreamer but I think it is possible to realize. Don’t you agree with me?
